ZACK INGLIS - WRITER/DIRECTOR

BIOGRAPHY

In 2015, Zack graduated from Edith Cowan University, with a Bachelor of Creative Industries: Majoring in Film and Video, Minoring in Script-writing. He's worked on a variety of short films, promotional and music videos. In 2016, he released 'The Field', an album in part reflecting on a Kalgoorlie upbringing. Since, Zack has released a Christmas album, and a live album: 'Goldfields', with the aid of Eleven13 Records. Now, he plays live shows, and tutors English at an agency part time.

His last two years have been devoted to developing 'The Light', as the key creative force behind the project. Zack started Inklight Cinema, and has amassed a crew of thirty, and an ensemble cast devoted to telling a Kalgoorlie story. Zack's passionate and committed to executing something incredible and exciting, honouring the lives, pain and triumphs of Kalgoorlie characters, as he leads the cast and crew into the project.

MISSION STATEMENT

To be properly prepared, rehearsed and organised is essential to go into our work confidently. I've stressed the importance of preparation with members of the Inklight Cinema team, and it's become a part of our ethos. That's how we get quality. I'm confident that with the work of Production Manager Robert Faulkner, we're well on our way to completing the project. The pre-production process has been extensive, so that during production, we're as seamless as possible, and we know exactly what we're doing

My cast and crew will not be lost in endless work hours, as Rob Faulkner and I are committed to treating them right, feeding them well, and making sure everybody's aware of where we're at in the process. It's collaborative, and the talented Inklight team is everything. The people come before the project.

When I need to focus on the story, and on performance, it has my full focus. My directing style involves investing in moments. I've selected a cast that suit their characters so well. This is a cast that picks up on emotion like radars, and can express a deep, hidden subtext. They're cracked open to the characters. I'm inspired by them.

As a director, I have high standards, a vision, and an ability to push or pull a performance to where it needs to be. Intuitively, I know what works and what doesn't, and I know how to express and alter the execution of the cast and crew accordingly. I'm prepared to lead, whilst leaving room for actors and crew to create and contribute.

In direction, I will foster a sense of freedom in performance, leaving actors comfortable to create, to feel, and to take chances. I push for perfection. But perfection in film is not a whole perfection. In performance, it comes from the unexpected, from taking risks. It's not clean. It's rough, it mirrors life, it's real feeling, energy and it's beautiful.

So much has gone into the film, financially, emotionally, and time-wise. This story will be told. I refuse to leave 'The Light' untold. It's something truly special, something electrifying, of life and death. I have, and will continue to always put in the effort, whilst staying in a position of control, and good mental health.

Some of the best advice I've heard... I can't remember where from... was that you just have to do it. We're young, but I know this story, I believe in my team, my team believes in me, and there's a vivid vision of what this film will be. I trust that we'll work towards a shared dream. We're facilitating a project that'll mean a lot to a lot of people. The crew are committed to creating high quality cinema.

At the end of the day, we're making a feature film. This is something we have to remind ourselves. What we're doing is incredible. The contributions from everyone making this happen is thrilling, life-affirming and holy.
